It’s not really a surprise that so many companies are starting to jump on the tablet PC bandwagon – Apple’s iPad has been a major success, even though no one seems to be able to tell me what they actually use it for. In fact, one of my friends recently told me that he doesn’t use it for anything in particular, but just likes having one.
Being a fan of technology I can sort of see where he’s coming from, but spending that much on a useless gadget seems a bit strange!
Anyway, the new tablet from RIM, known as the BlackBerry Playbook might be worth a look. It’s not as big as other options in the market – it only has a 7 inch screen – but it does come with a lot of the features that the iPad doesn’t It has HDMI output for example, and is able to multitask. It also comes with a browser that supports Flash so it’s almost like surfing the web from your home PC.
As you’ve probably guessed there are problems though. Apparently the small screen really detracts from what would have otherwise been a high quality browsing experience. The design of the machine is also said to be subpar, with silly mistakes like a wake button that’s difficult to push.
It sounds like a decent tablet but I can’t see myself buying one just yet!
